This is an example of how to drive a 7 segment LED display from an ATmega The design you started with I believe works by lighting up one segment of each digit one at a time, cycling thru the 4 digits. My code gives you the means to count down the time as you requested. system September 6, 2012,

7Segment Display Working. Depending on the character you wish to display, you must illuminate the appropriate segment LEDs. To display the number 4, for example, four LED segments b, c, f, and g must be illuminated. Similarly, various digits from 0 to 9 and characters from A to F can be displayed on a 7-segment display, as shown below.

Todisplay the number 2021 using Arduino, on a common cathode display: set digit1to LOW and the remaining digit pins to HIGH, now display Char 2. Now set digit pin2 to LOW, and the other pins to HIGH, and set the 7 segment pins to Char 0..etc. In this project, we used this method to print any possible character on the display.
7Segment pin 8 & 3 to the PLUS of the breadboard through your resistors. NOTE: if your 7 segment display is a common cathode display, connect pins 8 & 3 of the display to the GND!! 7-Segment pin 1 to Arduino pin 6. 7-Segment pin 2 to Arduino pin 5. 7-Segment pin 4 to Arduino pin 4. 7-Segment pin 5 to Arduino pin 7. 7-Segment pin 6 to Arduino Thistime I will made a simple timer which can count up and count down from 0 to 99 using 7 segment LED and 74hc595 shift and register breakout board. Because the lack of single 7 segment LED, I have to take a 4-digit 7segment at hand instead, just light up one digit of four. Relevant code /* Using 2 7-segment displays fOqzdC.
