First, change the issue type from "task" to "story". If they're configured the same way, then you can just edit the issue type directly, but if they're not, you'll need to use the "move" function to walk through all the checks that the data will be compatible with the Story config. Second, edit the "epic link" field - you'll be able to change
"Epic Status" is indeed a locked down field, and generally not available for editing. My JIRA Admin and I figured out that by temporarily adding the "Epic Status" to the Epic's edit screen (which is an Admin only task, especially when the screen is shared amongst projects), a user with "Edit" permissions can then change the value.
Jira is well equipped to help you integrate Epics into your project planning phases with ease. Here is how you can create an Epic issue in Jira: Create a new issue. Select issue type as ‘Epic.’. Fill in the details such as epic name, description, and such. Click create.
Therefore, we'd like to write an automatic rule that when the developer-specific Task is transitioned to In Progress then automatically transition the Epic to In Progress and update its Start Date field. We use Manual Trigger automation to create the User Story from the Epic (so the User Story is a child of the Epic).

Tip: All sub-tasks need to be complete in order to close a sprint. If a sub-task is still open, but the parent issue could justifiably be closed (say, if the sub-task for updating documentation is still open but the functionality is good to go), you can change the sub-task into an issue and close your sprint.
Mukund Iyer Rajamony Mar 20, 2019. bulk edit your sub-task in bulk and put a label "tobeEpicced". Then move them to tasks. then bulk edit your tasks with this label. Remove the label and add an epic link. first try changing issue types in bulk mode then add epic link at once in bulk,i think it might save your time.
The Epic issues are linked into the Initiatives with a 'is blocked by' relationship. What we are trying to do is create a query that shows the status of Initiative and the status of the linked Epic so we can verify they are in the correct statuses in accordance with the graphic above.
